A pragmatic, visionary perspective –

Ten months ago, I wrote an article about the candidacy of Donald Trump running for President.  Unlike many others at that time, I was encouraged to see him take action to disrupt the status quo and take on a group of GOP establishment candidates.  And, unlike many of the “mainstream media” journalists, I predicted he would NOT be an easy adversary to overcome.

My observation before the first televised, GOP debate was this:

Trump is not politically correct. I totally agree. He is politically accurate and that is something many average voters are identifying with and the career politicians just don’t seem to get.

He is quick, speaks his mind (and heart), and that is important not just for the Presidency, but for any CEO or organizational president’s position.

Throughout the last ten months, Trump has battled so many other seasoned candidates and it was not an easily-won conflict. He also battled the media.

Many within the media did not understand him, nor give him proper respect and the conservative writers at the National Review wrote an uncomplimentary article about him as if they were the be-all, end-all expert commission on who should run for President.  They are far from it.

Some of those sitting high atop (totally imagined) pedestals of self-importance have to realize they do not have any clue of the pulse of the people.  They are so out-of-touch and yet they think they speak for the vast majority of Americans.

Those who are in New York or Washington have no clue as to what is happening in places like Savanna, Rockford, and Pecatonica, Illinois; Manitowoc, Two Rivers and Beloit, Wisconsin; South Bend and Mishawaka, Indiana; Benton Harbor, Michigan, and other towns and cities struggling to remain viable.

Many towns across the United States are concerned about regional sustainability and long-term viability.  Many, if not all, major cities are also in bad shape, even though their political leaders will not admit to it.

A loss-of-job is a critical wake-up call, no matter what party a person is affiliated with or what economic level they are at. Many tough decisions on spending, supporting a family, and just surviving crash into the person’s mind who is already reeling from the loss of steady income.

Those in the media have no understanding of this until their paper, magazine, or other media outlet decides to lay them off due to lack of profits.  Then, those journalists have a firsthand taste of unemployment and all the uncertainties it brings. The initial reaction is, why me? I am such a valuable asset. How can I be let go?

Many people in today’s economy have experienced that uneasy feeling directly, or from a close relative losing a job.  They do not have to be told that our economy is still very fragile and fairly stagnant.

Those people came out en masse to vote for Trump and the results are self-evident.  People want change.  BIG change, not chump change.  Trump change!

  • They want borders that are enforced. Trump change.
  • They want an economy that is solid and creating real jobs, not part-time Starbucks jobs. Trump change.
  • They want competent people running government agencies. Trump change.
  • They want competent people negotiating trade deals. Trump change.
  • They want to see a real future for their kids and not a continuing downward spiral into a third-world economy. Trump change.
  • They want to see us as a leading, supreme military force in the international arena and not be embarrassed by third-world countries boarding our Navy ships. Trump change.

Trump is definitely the “last man standing” in the major league race for the GOP nomination for President.  He should now be focusing his campaign against the presumptive Democratic candidate, Hillary Clinton.

Those in the GOP need to rally around him. He may not have been their “personal” choice, but he is the choice of the Party.  He is the choice of the people.  Those “party elite” who are still hesitant seem like sore losers.  In the past, they expected everyone to rally around “their guy” no matter who we voted for in the Primary and we did.  And they lost.

If they really had the people’s best interests in their actions in the past several elections and in Congress, Donald Trump would have never ran.  What’s more important, Donald Trump would have never won.

A pragmatic, visionary perspective —–

Another article that looks at the political change in American politics not being clearly understood or reported on by those analyzing and reporting politics in the media:

In the last GOP Presidential debate on CNN, Jeb Bush called Donald Trump, the Chaos Candidate. Somehow it reminded me of the old 1960s TV show, Get Smart.

If Trump is from Chaos (KAOS), Bush must be from CONTROL.

Good old Maxwell Bush, Agent 96 (which is just about how many percentage points he’s lacking in all the polls). No matter how much Agent 96 talks, he just can’t get rid of Trump and he cannot rise in the polls.

Even his boss, the Chief, Karl Rove, can’t understand the resilience of Trump, the Chaos Candidate.

The political TV ads calling Trump reckless don’t seem to ring true. People are just not buying into Bush’s presentations or CONTROL’s accusations. The commercials do ring up a big bill though.

CONTROL (the Republican Establishment) has spent over $50,000,000 without changing any of the polling numbers or shattering Trump’s commanding lead over all the candidates. Sorry about that, Chief.

How many more times can Agent 96 come up short in the polls? CONTROL is spending money like crazy. How many more times will it be OK to say, “Well, he just missed by THAT much”?

Some say it’s time for Agent 96 to call it quits.

People ARE buying into Trump’s message and it is ringing true. Instead of being politically correct, Trump has come out being very politically accurate and that is something both CONTROL and the mainstream Press fail to comprehend. They have been PC (Politically Correct) for so long, they forgot how piercing the unvarnished truth can be. Or, how it resonates with the common man (and woman), who is fed up with the stagnation of the economy while being told “we’ve turned the corner.

Trump has definitely caused CHAOS in the well-established, cut-and-dried candidate selection process owned by CONTROL.

In the last Presidential election cycle, Agent 999 (Herman Cain, remember his 9-9-9 Tax Plan?) gained some traction with the voters, but then CONTROL took him out of the running because it did not conform with what the Chief really wanted.

In this election cycle, CONTROL doesn’t seem to have any control. Chaos is winning. And winning big.

Trump has distinguished himself as being a much more formidable candidate than the Chief, Agent 96, and others in CONTROL and the Press gave him credit for.

CONTROL’s message is falling on deaf ears. In the age of the Smartphone, Agent 96’s message is as attractive and enticing as a rotary phone for the average voters’ consumption.

Agent 96’s attempt to take down Trump by saying he is unhinged and reckless did not stick. He tried to say if Trump can’t stand the heat in the debate, how could he be President?

Instead of getting “unhinged”, Trump rolled his eyes, turned it around and said, “yeah, you’re a real tough guy, Jeb.” The sparring continued, but as always, Chaos won against the bumbling, energy-deficient attack. Sorry about that, Chief.

As I mentioned in a previous article on Trump when he first started his campaign, ( article ) he has some executive skills which are clearly lacking in the other candidates. Many in the Press either don’t see it or they just don’t understand it.

Trump can think fast on his feet. Trump can articulate an answer to a “Gotcha question” which is ten times more venomous than the question was and make the questioner look like a jerk. Trump doesn’t need a teleprompter to get his message across, either.

That is powerful stuff.

I have only seen those skills in some of the old line politicians in Chicago and a few, very few, CEOs of companies.

Other Presidential candidates have gained more traction than Agent 96. Cruz is gaining strength, Rubio and Rand Paul’s arguments are very decisive, and even Chris Christie finally got some traction.

It’s time for many of the others to drop out. On the race to the nomination, they are driving under-powered, rear-wheel drive cars, with bald tires, and not getting any traction with the voters in this heavy political snowstorm. Some, like Lindsay Graham, seem to be spinning out-of-control with odd comments. (Princess Buttercup??)

The People are fed up.

It’s the Chief with another strategy. The problem is, it’s not the 1960s anymore and the country’s prosperity is down, its security is weak, its borders have been compromised, and voters are not buying off on stale ideas or the typical campaign rhetoric. Voters are looking for someone new and they aren’t going to fall for CONTROL’s campaign.

CARLINI-ISM : “For President, people want someone politically accurate who calls ‘em the way they see them . If that’s Chaos, then we need to get out-of-CONTROL.”

Hardening Intelligent Infrastructure and Mission Critical Networks is a Must

By James Carlini

A pragmatic, visionary perspective —–

In the age of global cyberattacks, enterprises and government agencies which have some type of cloud-based network solutions should be looking at a strategic design focus that guarantees a very secure intelligent infrastructure which is not susceptible to cyberattacks.

In my upcoming book on Military Infrastructure, Strategies & Tactics for the War on Terrorism, NANOKRIEG BEYOND BLITZKRIEG, I discuss some of the following concepts. We need to be prepared for a totally different type of warfare which depends on a totally different type of weaponry and warfare strategy.

Hardening an organization’s data center as well as its networks (and clouds) is a critical step to insuring its business continuity. Forget “disaster recovery” as it is a dated term and dated concept. Disaster recovery refers to the organized shutdown of systems and then when the disaster (event) is over, a systematic restart of the total application is initiated.

In today’s corporate business environment, many organizations cannot survive if their applications are out-of-service for a couple of days. Business continuity, where enterprise operations continue through the duration of the disaster, is a more robust design approach to system, data center, and network resiliency.

Disaster recovery is a dated term like data processing. More resilient systems, which are not susceptible to disasters and outages, are what should be planned and designed, especially for any organization’s mission critical applications.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is Only as Good as the Internet of Reality

I have said this in previous columns, “The Internet of Things is only as good as the Internet of Reality: the Network Infrastructure.” Too many IT executives buy off on glossy brochures and catchy buzz-phrases about the “Internet of Things” spun out by the “P.T. Barnum-like”, vendor evangelists in their corporate-logo golf shirts.

IT execs, who are not asking hard questions as to the “resiliency and robustness” of some of the inter-workings these cloud products, will be the first ones suffering when their organizations is exposed as having a data leak, a network failure, or a loss of all customer records and credit card information due to a cyberattack. Of course, this also applies to government systems and networks as well.

If the corporate (or government) network infrastructure is not fully protected or resilient from cyberattacks and other threats, the functionality of its cloud will be compromised whether it is a public or private cloud.

Why is this so important? If you are looking at any cloud-based computing, it better be bulletproof especially if it is carrying time-sensitive mission critical applications for your enterprise or information deemed private and confidential (like customer credit card information or health records).

One cloud feature missing in financial networks which I have pointed out in the past is Cloud Transaction Synchronicity ©. (Article – )

Basically, this is the total traffic synchronization of ALL transactions being sent across within a cloud. This should be a traffic monitoring service available in any cloud application (Article – )

This would guarantee a much higher and comprehensive level of compliance within the boundaries of the SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission), FINRA (Financial Industry Regulatory Authority) as well as other regulatory bodies within the financial and brokerage area. By having this timing synchronization embedded into the total network infrastructure of a cloud, it would guarantee the ability to re-construct the transaction sequence in any major drop or jump in the velocity and value of transactions processed. It would be able to provide exact sequencing of transactions and where they originated from, which in today’s cloud networks is not a functional capability of any network utilizing HFT servers (High Frequency Trading).

Without having this type of diagnostic capability, no cloud network offers what is really needed to be able to re-construct and diagnose the sequence of transactions occurred in a market crash scenario like the one that happened in 2010. (The 1000 Point Drop of the Dow)

EMP attacks are a real possibility. With the rise in terrorist attacks and a country’s national economy viewed as a viable target, it makes sense to harden both data centers and their networks to a standard where EMP attacks are nullified, (From article – ):

As the Heritage Foundation has reported, an EMP attack with a warhead detonated 25 to 300 miles above the U.S. mainland “would fundamentally change the world:”
“Airplanes would fall from the sky; most cars would be inoperable; electrical devices would fail. Water, sewer and electrical networks would fail simultaneously. Systems of banking, energy, transportation, food production and delivery, water, emergency services and even cyberspace would collapse.”

Is your data center susceptible to an EMP attack? (Electro-Mechanical Pulse bomb) Are your network EMP-proof? If you are dealing with a third party supplying a data center capability and/or a private cloud, are they EMP proof?

These are questions to have fully answered before you embark on building out any enterprise or third party-supplied, cloud network or data center supporting any mission critical application.

Iron-clad clouds are needed in an era of NANOKRIEG, electronic warfare (EMP), cyberattacks, and digital economic terrorism.

CARLINI-ISM : “We need to prepare for new warfare and develop new defenses, not wallow in weapons, strategies, and tactics from the last century.”

His next book, NANOKRIEG BEYOND BLITZKRIEG will be out next year, 2016.

A pragmatic, visionary perspective —–

This article looks at the political change in American politics that is not being clearly understood or reported on by those analyzing and reporting politics in the media:

Donald Trump is baffling many of the news channels because he is not playing their game. He is outraging some of the long-time politicians who think they are in an elite class beyond any criticism and who are out-of-touch with the common man (and woman).

Trump is not politically correct. I totally agree. He is politically accurate and that is something many average voters are identifying with and the career politicians just don’t seem to get.

People are already blocking out the time in August, so they don’t miss the first televised GOP debate. It will probably be a very highly rated show because many people want to see how Trump handles the rest of the candidates and probably more importantly, how the rest of the candidates are going to handle him.

Trump is going to make the GOP debates exciting and force other candidates to come up with real answers. Trump brings something to the table that neither of the GOP candidates brought in the last two elections – celebrity. Unfortunately, “celebrity” is now part of the skill set or character make-up that a Presidential candidate needs to have in order to attract the low-information voter.

Political experience may be a factor, but not as big a factor as “Flat-screen” celebrity. Many candidates have good political experience, but they are like watching the grass grow in their attempts to “Sell their platform”.

If they have nine other candidates for the debate, every one of them has to realize Donald Trump has a really good executive skill. He is fast on his feet when it comes to giving an answer to a question or a comment. He doesn’t need sheets of paper, 3×5 cards, or a teleprompter in front of him.

He is quick, speaks his mind (and heart), and that is important not just for the Presidency, but for any CEO or organizational president’s position.

Trump epitomizes the kid on the block who gets picked on by the established neighborhood bullies, but instead of cowering or running home, Trump sticks around to pummel the kid who picks on him and sends him home with a black eye instead. You may not agree with that. Too bad.

He is not going to get beat up by a career, do-nothing, politician who demeans him and his supporters, or by a smarmy, self-centered journalist who thinks he is going to corner him on some issue. He is going to fight back and give as good as he gets.

Well with Trump, he will probably give more than he gets. People want a fighter. And as General George S. Patton said, “America loves a winner.”

The liberal media needs to understand, Trump is not going to take a backseat to any candidate in this Primary. He also is not going to play the “insecure-to-take-on-the-opposition”, “politically correct” milk-toast candidate most in the News media expect the Republicans to field.

The People are fed up.

The People are fed up.

If you think it’s just some Republicans supporting Trump, guess again. He is gaining support from everyone who is fed up with the same old candidates to select from in either party.

People see through the smarmy, East Coast media criticism. They know that this country needs someone very strong to go for fundamental change and reform to rebuild some of the weakened infrastructure which has developed in the last several years.

As both parties cringe at some of Trump’s reactions to other candidates’ barbs and name-calling, Trump is winning over both Republicans, Democrats and even Independents who are fed up with the Washington insiders.

Many in the news media just don’t get it. Third-graders, I mean “journalists”, like Chris Matthews and Chris Hayes on MSNBC just don’t know how to handle Trump’s bluntness. They don’t know how to try to put him down because he is not some small pushover who, at the sound of their first giggling criticism, is going to waffle or knuckle under. These politically correct reporters thrive on trying to belittle candidates who don’t share their same views of the world.

Also, Trump is no Sarah Palin and a Saturday Night Live skit is not going to torpedo Trump’s campaign or career. If anything, it will just galvanize it into something stronger.

Many say Trump will not survive in the long-run. I say, sit back and watch.

The more media people and political candidates try to talk him down, the more everyday people, whose opinions have not been heard in this country, are going to back him because he is their voice. He is pointing out problems, do-nothing government bureaucracies, and problems with illegal immigration that politicians want to sweep under the rug. Karl Rove and other “Strategists” better wake up and smell the Starbucks.

Is he a serious candidate or a clown? The question you should be asking yourself is: How serious are the others in failing to talk about critical issues and talking about how they themselves are going to fix them?

People want the impact of Trump to go into these Washington bureaucracies like the IRS, the Veterans Administration, the Attorney General’s office and other department heads who think they do not have to serve the people, serve our veterans, or answer to the people about their poor performance and be told, “You’re fired.” That would be no act of a clown.

Trump may just be the Champion for the Common man (and woman) and no other candidate on either party fits that bill. Why? They just don’t understand how fed up the people are.  The Silent Majority may just be back.

CARLINI-ISM : “Speaking with political accuracy can only help people come to a real understanding of the issue at hand. Being politically correct clouds up decisions as well as judgement.”

A pragmatic, visionary perspective —–

This article is an excerpt from James Carlini’s upcoming presentation at the Windy City Summit in Chicago next week:

.Digital wallet applications are opening up a whole new retail experience for shoppers as well as the retailers themselves. Plus, the approach is more secure than traditional credit cards.

Credit cards are becoming obsolete as new approaches using Smartphones and their NFC (Near Field Communications) chip technology become part of the mainstream customer transaction experience. With Smartphones, other demographic information can also be collected real-time and used in a cross-marketing effort to capture the lost customer in multi-venue environments (i.e. attendees at a convention center are sent eCoupons or eDiscounts from other surrounding venues like restaurants or bars to have them patronize them after hours rather than going to a venue outside the immediate convention center area).

With the explosive change of edge technology going from desktops and laptops to Smartphones and tablets, new approaches to in-store customer transactions must be designed and implemented in all next-generation real estate.

Next-generation real estate includes: Intelligent Buildings, Intelligent Business Campuses (IBCs), Intelligent Industrial Parks (IIPs), and multi-venue Intelligent Retail/ Entertainment/ Convention centers (IRECs).

New digital wallet (or mobile wallet) capabilities including Apple Pay, MCX (Merchant Customer Exchange) and other mobile applications are being built up right now to support transactions initiated by the retail customer for purchases in all retail establishments.

The old phone company’s “Let your fingers do the walking” ad which focused on using the Yellow Pages has been replaced with, “Let your fingers do the buying” on your Smartphone.

Some people are looking at credit cards becoming a thing of the past as they see the power of their Smartphone taking on the capabilities to do all retail transactions without opening up their wallets or purses.

Most large retailers see the shift as well and are already supporting the MCX platform which will facilitate Smartphone retail transactions.

Banana Republic, Bed Bath & Beyond, Best Buy, Conoco, CVS, Dillard’s, Exxon-Mobil, GAP, Hobby Lobby, K-Mart, Kohl’s, Lowe’s, Rite-Aid, Sears, Shell, 76, Sunoco, Target, Wal-Mart, Wendy’s, and 7-Eleven, are just some of the retail partners already involved in this endeavor which provides a free, downloadable app that includes the facilitation for merchant loyalty points for rewards.

The concept of creating a Virtual Resort (using WiFi and DAS Networks) will be discussed as well as a pragmatic, cloud-computing framework to develop a new strategic approach to cross-marketing near-by venues and the gathering of real-time customer demographics in a Smartphone-dominated retail customer environment.

To design one venue, like a stadium or convention center, requires a certain level of expertise to plan and implement a working solution. When you add several different venues (entertainment, restaurants, and retail) together into one complex, the need to understand the interrelationships which are going on and the potentials for cross-selling and cross-marketing as well as the overall changes in network traffic patterns and usage peaks is critical.

What are the benefits to the building owners of building an electronic “Virtual Resort”? This intelligent amenity provides a competitive advantage for the complex in enticing prospective tenants by offering added capabilities to insure their business’s success as well as providing a more enhanced experience to anyone visiting any part of their multi-venue complex. Instead of space being a commodity, these added intelligent amenities makes the location more valuable to both the owner and the tenant because the business tenant now has more electronic marketing (eCOUPONS, ePASSES, eDISCOUNTS) pushing people into his establishment than in a traditional real estate space. For the building owner, having this capability is a distinct competitive advantage which will attract a higher-caliber tenant and create higher occupancy rates.

This is economic development for the 21st century.

By attracting the potential customer to more venues, the revenues generated will be greater not only for the retailers but also for the municipality which will gain sales taxes that would have otherwise gone to some community “down the road.”

It’s a win-win-win situation for local economic development where customers get discounts and special promotions, retailers get more business, building owners have more successful tenants, and the community gets more in sales tax revenues.

There are definite security differences between NFC chips (facilitating the digital wallet application) in Smartphones versus the RFID chips found in many major bank credit cards. (See Chart 1)

NFC vs. RFID CHIP – From LOCATION LOCATION CONNECTIVITY – James Carlini All Rights Reserved.

As Smartphones and Tablets become more ubiquitous, demand for speed (for new apps) will increase and not go down. Some new installation endeavors (like stadiums and ball parks) have already shown they are under-engineered, so current engineering “rules-of-thumb” do not reflect actual demand.

We need to focus on strengthening the resiliency of networks as well as increasing their speeds.

As we move to 5G Networks in the year 2020, they will be providing some very high speeds to the average user (See CHART 2). Having more bandwidth available will accelerate the amount of applications that are feasible for customer service, video, high-definition video, social networking, and so many other Smartphone applications.

CARLINI-ISM : “Those cities which keep horse-and-buggy taxes and penalties as one of their major revenue streams, will become economic ghost towns.”

A pragmatic, visionary perspective —–

Cyber -vandalism is NOT a strong enough word and should NOT be used when discussing the corporate system attacks that were done to the SONY corporation or any corporate entity.

The President of the United States has used this term and it should not be accepted as the correct label for what happened.

Bringing down a corporate network, stealing 400,000 credit cards, or stagnating a regional power grid is NOT the equivalent to spray-painting your name on someone’s garage door.  If we are to define the SONY cyber attack as a big problem, let’s identify the problem with the right label: corporate cyber-sabotage.

As I said in an earlier column about the impact of this type of electronic attack, “This isn’t a story line for a Die Hard movie anymore. It is reality and you can see governments getting into this as a form of electronic warfare and cyber retaliation.”

When you look at cyber-based threats and the impact they can have, many in Washington have no clue.  Why? Because computers were not their strong suit in school or at the jobs most of them came out of.  Most legislators are lawyers and most lawyers are not that computer-literate.  The world of computers, networks, and mission critical applications are not the first topics of discussions at Washington cocktail parties. So the reality of having the right defenses in place for cyber-crimes and cyber-sabotage has yet to be fully defined, let alone achieved.

As I pointed out in an earlier column:

Many organizations are still in a primitive mode when it comes to backing-up mission-critical applications. With mission-critical applications in organizations growing from “one out of three” to “one out of two” in many areas, the need to take a broader and more strategic view on the Three Rs (Reliability, Redundancy and Resiliency) of the enterprise is critical.

(See my article on Enterprise Assessment Framework – )

The type of attack which happened at SONY should be a solid warning for all that cyber-corporate espionage is a real issue to deal with and that corporate cyber-espionage can bring down just about any organization.

Electro-Magnetic Pulse (EMP) bombs have been a potential threat since the Cold War.  The difference today is that more rogue nations, like North Korea, could have a bomb like this in its inventory.

EMP bombs do not have to have a sophisticated delivery system like a multi-stage Inter-Continental Ballistic Missile system.  They can be brought across the ocean in a freighter and just exploded 50-100 miles above land and any electronics underneath their “umbrella” coverage become fried and non-functional.

That would put us back into the 15th century.  Imagine no cars, no electronics, no TV, no phones, and no social media. Technology would be dialed back to Christopher Columbus’ day.

Economic chaos would ensue and crowds of people would be protesting the lack of everything electronic.

Corporate cyber-sabotage and EMP bombs are real threats.  We need to make sure we are prepared for any type of attack like this and that means the government better be establishing new rules, policies, and procedures to protect us.

CARLINI-ISM: Corporate cyber-sabotage is real and CEOs as well as Congressional lawmakers better understand its ability to stop an enterprise (or government) in its tracks if real safeguards are not put in place.

A pragmatic, visionary perspective —–

Most people are worried about their credit cards being stolen, but more ominous problems with cyber attacks are being aimed at other parts of a corporation including tampering with facilities and manufacturing processes, stealing Intellectual Property (IP), and changing formulas and processing around so that it is next to impossible to revert back to the original systems and procedures. Corporate cyber-sabotage could be used by rival companies, foreign governments, or just cyber-anarchists who want to punish a corporation for their products or political stances.

Just think if a huge company like GM, Caterpillar, or Ford got hit with a cyber attack focused on all the robotic systems in their assembly lines. Talk about getting “held up”, what if the systems were put in “Lock Down” mode? Or all the parameters set on various robotic tools like saws, drills, and welding machines got fed different information and coordinates which would render any type of production to zero output.

What if it was in a multi-staged attack where you first shut everything down, but then re-programmed the robots and automated machining so that when they were brought back up from a “disaster recovery mode” status to an “active status”, they would all have faulty, re-calibrated information in their cutting and manufacturing procedures? How easy would that be to unravel and fix all those changes and recalibrate all the robots so they were performing the right movements at the right time? Are corporate back-up systems as good as their executive staffs think they are?

Damaging a competitor’s core business may be a goal of a rival company or a rogue nation. It doesn’t matter who is initiating
the attack. What matters is, do you have the safeguards in place before the Tsunami of system failures hits your organization?

This isn’t a story line for a Die Hard movie anymore. It is reality and you can see governments getting into this as a form of electronic warfare and cyber retaliation.

Most CEOs may think about the possibilities of a cyber attack, but when they are asked for capital to harden facilities or hire qualified personnel who can safeguard resources, they don’t see the expenditure being necessary, especially if they are anticipating some big bonus. Cost-cutting executives and their organizations are the perfect target for these cyber criminals. If the cyber criminal knows the CEO is too cheap to approve monies for security, then it’s “easy pickings”.

This could happen and this is why more corporations needs to be aware of these more strategic approaches to corporate cyber-sabotage

Stealing credit card information is just the tip of the iceberg. Stopping an organization dead in its tracks because their electronic systems that manage and motivate the manufacturing process, is a much loftier goal.

CARLINI-ISM: Just when you thought you fixed one digital problem, another comes crawling up electronically.

What amenity can a building owner or property management firm add to a building to eliminate 90% of their competition in today’s commercial real estate market? The answer: Broadband Connectivity.

This is not hype. This is not conceptual or theoretical. It is fact.

In performing research for a planning project I worked on while consulting to the DuPage Business Center, an 800-acre high-tech business park in Illinois, I found that searching for Class A space (20,000 square feet) in the surrounding area came up with a total of 60 available properties.

With that many properties offering space, it would be an easy time to get them to compete on price until the price per square foot was driven down to a very low amount. With owners hungry for a tenant, we could probably negotiate a year free on a five-year lease.

As soon as I added Broadband Connectivity (multiple gigabit speeds) to the upfront requirements for the tenant space, the amount of buildings available with that amenity dropped to five. That is over a 90% reduction in the amount of buildings available that could handle that type of request.

In that scenario, the building owner would not have to sacrifice dropping the price per square foot and could focus on more unique strengths of the property. End result: The property owner keeps up the profitability of the building and attracts the premium tenants.

Hear that huge shattering sound of glass, steel and marble crashing down to the ground? That is the shattering of decades’ worth of commercial real estate concepts that don’t work anymore.

The sad part is many in the Commercial Real Estate (CRE) market need to tune into this deafening thunder. The status quo has been shattered and shattered again by the implementation of WiFi. DAS and Smartphone networks into many venues. Commercial real estate needs to offer what was before a hoped for, that has become a “must-have”.

As I said in an earlier article: ( )
Selling products and services into this 21st century integrated real estate environment requires an expertise in understanding multi-disciplinary skills and next-generation solutions. It is a multi-level sell when trying to promote new intelligent amenities for next-generation buildings, multi-venue entertainment centers, and intelligent business campuses.

Part of my book, Location Location Connectivity, deals with changing out Master Planning concepts. Areas of concern like power and network infrastructure services have become something to be added to the upfront planning of the property and not as some after-thought once the tenant signs the contract.

The reality is the tenant is NOT going to sign any contract unless these amenities are already present and available. When it comes to Master Planning, both power and network services have to be implemented upfront before any tenant will buy into the property.

If you are into property management or ownership of Class A Buildings, do you want to eliminate the vast majority of your competition in today’s commercial real estate market? Start taking a look at implementing intelligent amenities before potential tenants require them and you have to do things in a crisis mode.

CARLINI-ISM: “When it comes to commercial real estate, those stuck with 20th century solutions will not be able to attract and maintain 21st century tenants.”

At the HetNet Expo in Chicago on October, 16th, I asked a question to a regional Manager from Verizon at one of the morning panel discussions. I thought it was a good question, but did not elicit a good answer. This concerns me and should concern you.
“With the amount of wireless devices going from 10 Billion devices today to 50 Billion devices in 2020, what are the strategic plans of your company, Verizon, when it comes to building out network infrastructure?”

It was a straightforward question and I expected a definitive answer. When you look at the timetable for meeting the 5G Network objective, it is pretty clear they only have five years or a half a decade to plan, design, and implement a more robust and resilient network infrastructure that can handle a huge amount of new traffic.

We are supposed to be running in a 5G Network environment by 2020 and that means a lot of things to a lot of people. One thing it means is that all the carriers, AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, and Verizon have to do major upgrades to their networks.

Instead of getting a good answer, I got some song-and-dance from the Verizon Wireless manager and an even worse “wango tango of buzz phrases and euphemisms” from the moderator of the panel, who clearly did not know what he was talking about.

You would think they would be all over that question talking about the path to expansion of their infrastructure as well as the potential expansion of available network services to provide companies and individuals with more choices for faster capabilities.

If you have a plan, you would point out three or four of its major initiatives and tick off a timeline for their expected executions. Nothing like that came out of the panel discussion. It was more of the “these are big companies with big brains figuring all this out” rhetoric that did not impress me (or others).

Carriers must have a real strategic plan to meet this real challenge and I just don’t see it. Five years is not a lot of time for all this to transpire and be done right.

In talking to some others who were at the HetNet Expo, I spoke with one person who told me his company was trying to sell this one real estate owner on adding more connectivity into his building for over three years, but their offers were always turned down. He said the building owner was now trying to lock in a new anchor tenant and part of the lease requires they have broadband connectivity in the building.

He said now the owner is scrambling and wants them to come in and build out his building with new antennae immediately because he is afraid he will lose this anchor tenant to someone else if he fails to upgrade his building.

I told him more of that is going to start happening as tenants start demanding intelligent amenities as part of the basic lease package and if it isn’t available, they will be moving to new facilities. It is already happening.

I discussed some of these concepts in the Keynote I presented. Next-generation real estate needs to have a whole new set of terminology to describe this paradigm shift and the industry needs to understand the new concepts.

My book, LOCATION LOCATION CONNECTIVITY, which will be available later in October. (ISBN # is 978-0-9906460-44) covers these concepts from Intelligent Business Campuses (IBCs) and Intelligent Industrial Parks (IIPs) to other multi-venue platforms including IRECs. An IREC is an Intelligent Retail/ Entertainment/ Convention Center (IREC) complex which focuses on Smartphone technology to cross-market venues to every visitor who decides to attend or shop at one of the buildings within the coverage of the wireless broadband capabilities designed to service the complex.

CARLINI-ISM: “For us to get to 5G Networks by 2020, all the Carriers need to upgrade their current network infrastructure and discard old rules-of-thumb.”

Rock the Block 2014 – J4J

Saturday, August 23, 2014 we will celebrate our third year of “Rock the Block” at Rodney Square in Wilmington, Delaware. From 12 Noon until 5 PM, great local bands fill Rodney Square and several blocks square radius with great music on a summer day. But, it’s not just about the music.

Because of sponsors like CityReach, The Way Ryders Motorcycle Ministry, Immanuel Church, Iron Faith Fellowship Church and Delaware House of Prayer of Wilmington, we are able to help the people of Wilmington in tangible ways, face to face. The grills are ready, the food donations are in, the clothing donations are organized, the resource, shelter, recovery/addiction services and anti-abuse organizations are coming with information packets, the army of face-painters, game players, balloon creature creators, dancers, encouragers and prayer ministers are ready to rock ‘n roll. It is a huge undertaking. If all goes as planned we will hand out 1400 meals that day. We pray that we are able to also touch people with the love of GOD and meet their immediate physical needs and provide encouragement and positive avenues for change.

51989_10151866530876779_414089444_oWilmington’s shelters are packed to overflowing. There are so many agencies trying to help in so many ways with no real change in sight. The problem of homelessness is multi-faceted and has many deep roots. No matter what types of stereotypes you have been taught to believe, homeless people are not all addicts..homeless people are not all lazy…homeless people are not all criminals. Many are US Veterans, families and people who through a turn of events or loss of job, or even sickness or mental illness landed on hard times and down-spiraled with no hope of getting back up.

So this Saturday, we have the following resolves:

  • We WILL make a difference
  • We WILL feed the hungry
  • We WILL clothe the underprivileged
  • We WILL produce a joy-filled environment for those who need one desperately
  • We WILL provide hope through helpful REAL solutions
  • We WILL provide resources for viable change
  • We WILL NOT judge a book by its cover
  • We WILL NOT turn a blind eye to people in need
  • We WILL love GOD with all our hearts, minds, souls, spirits, bodies and…

Why The Birds?

Imagine a little bird sitting on top of an antique typewriter, a classic book, or an Amati violin.

How can a painting tell a story through an unusual combination of objects that invoke a fond memory with appeal?  When people look at my current series of oil paintings, they often ask “Why the birds?”

Barbara Rudolph Tell Me A Story

Growing up, my late father used to enjoy making wood carvings of birds.  Although it was just a hobby for him, he did create many beautiful sculptures of birds.  He often asked me to paint birds, however I didn’t listen to him until much later in my art career.

There is also a toll free number you can call 866-964-2867 and I found that Edson at ext 817637 was quite helpful. Ordering off the site is easy so you do not need to call in, but if you need to speak to someone then the toll free is great support.

Also there are some addons. I cannot help you here. I did get the backup feature, but left out the rest. It is up to you. Can’t help you here. If you are selling on your site and want to take credit card information then you probably want the security addon as it gives pci certification. If you use Paypal or other vendor you may not need this feature.

Why am I sending this out? I wanted to move for some time as is so much more powerful, but you need to know when to get the best bang for your buck and the 50% off does not come around too often.

For those moving to what is the downside? There is a lot more maintenance to deal with, but I believe the power and usability make up for that if you are willing.

How Brands Can Use Promoted Pins

Marketing On Pinterest

Pinterest Interview with Joanne Bradford

Hi everyone, I thought you might like to see this great interview Bloomberg TV did with Joanne Bradford – Pinterest’s Director of Partnerships. In the interview she answers the following questions:

What have you learned about what works and what doesn’t work?

Are there any kinds of brands that do well on Pinterest versus others?

Right now the promoted pins are visible when I search, will I ever see a promoted Pin right when I log onto Pinterest?

Why should I pay for a promoted pin on Pinterest instead of a sponsored story on Facebook or a promoted tweet on Twitter?

What’s it like working with Ben Silbermann?

She also explains what the current brands running promoted pins are learning. Those brands include:

Which brands are advertising on Pinterest

The most exciting thing in the interview as Joanne’s discussion of how Pinterest plans to roll out advertising products to serve the smaller brands at a pricepoint…

The Commercial Real Estate Distressed Assets Association CREDAA Story 2009 to 2011

CREDAA Advisors

About The Commercial Real Estate Distressed Assets Association

CREDAA was founded in pre-launch in January of 2010 and was first developed starting on August 20th 2009.

CREDAA is the brainchild of Scott Miller and Warren Samek, both National Commercial Account Executives with Fidelity National Title in Seattle, WA and JW Najarian, formally a commercial lender with Pathfinder Commercial Mortgage and the Founder of The Commercial Real Estate Professional Investor Group out of Los Angeles.

After the real estate and stock markets fell in September of 2008 the founders envisioned a commercial real estate collapse coming as the CRE market tends to lag just around 2 years from the residential market. We believe now that due to the magnitude of the market and residential market crashes, the commercial collapse is happening at a quicker pace.

Due to the TARP plan we believe the banks are holding troubled assets at an alarming rate and furthermore, that if these assets are held too long, that the market recovery will be much longer than it needs to be.

The founders came up with the idea that if the industry had a place to be able to work together at finding solutions, that the recovery could be sped up. The founders believe that an association of industry professionals and investors can, given the most current information, data and education, find and implement solutions that will help banks, brokers, lenders, investors and property owners re-work or get out from under troubled assets with the least losses.

Mission Statement

CREDAA is dedicated to, discovering solutions to the troubled assets market to help and guide in supporting, enlightening, educating and engaging our member base and the industry on the current state of Commercial Real Estate, Distressed, toxic, unstable, troubled Assets or Non-performing Notes, by using technology, seminars, lectures, symposiums, webinars, teleseminars, and other media to deliver high quality and pertinent industry news, views, content, analytics and analysis and education to legitimate investors, brokers, lenders, industry professionals and sellers to communicate, participate and work together in on-going daily forums. CREDAA will also provide professionals a forum to promote themselves by listing members and their services in order to allow other members to build professional teams nationally to get projects moving.

Vision Statement

CREDAA, as an association, will be a powerful information resource and community for the commercial real estate and financial industry. CREDAA will effect positive change. Employing our mission to support and educate the industry to help find win-win solutions for financial institutions, lenders, brokers, buyers and other professionals can use and utilize to help move these assets into the public realm. As a group, we will assist the economy by turning around our current bad debt in Commercial Real Estate markets.

To provide brokers, lenders, banks, investors and other CRE industry professionals, education, solutions, resources and other support to help them in the disposition, acquisition, valuation and financing of CRE Distressed, Toxic, Unstable or troubled assets and non-performing notes. Become a membership of companies and individuals operating in the commercial real estate, investment, finance, and banking industries.

Policies and Procedures

CREDAA is a professional organization dedicated to the aquisition or distribution of commercial distressed assets and notes.

Values Statement

CREDAA believes that integrity of a person can only be determined via the values one possesses in a particular order. To stay in integrity CREDAA will judge each situation against this value list in this particular order.

  • Customer Service
  • Value product / user
  • Ease of Use
  • Profitable

In July of 2011 Leonard Mangriquez of ALB Commercial Capital took over the reigns of CREDAA taking the focus off of CREDAA Connect and placing it at This change added needed functionality and added high level CRE industry training.

ALB Commercial still runs the site, but has decided to focus on the lending side of the industry.

Sadly CREDAA Connect has been taken down. Here is what I saved from the front page of CREDAA Connect.

CREDAA, is dedicated to discovering and creating solutions for the Commercial Mortgage default industry and work towards keeping our members at the forefront of industry news and views, and provide support in the professional development and advancement of our members.

CREDAA is focused intently on taking action in these three areas:
1. Educate
With CREDAA, members leverage the power of knowledge and the brilliance of other industry professionals to enable success in the current CRE marketplace. CREDAA delivers education utilizing a variety of platforms like audio & video podcasts, webinars, seminars, online training, and Summit educational conferences.
2. Enable
Navigating, seizing and controlling current markets can only be accomplished by leveraging the latest research, analytics, news, and views. CREDAA is a place that provides access and the ability to find essential resources to enable the member to find and complete deals in an extremely tough market.
3. Connect
Real solutions through collaboration found only with the power of CREDAA networking. Find your local and national deal teams with the best of the best in the industry. Participate in business building events where you learn, find deals, make contacts, and create valuable friendships.

Closing Letter to CREDAA Connect Members

Hello members of CREDAA Connect. In August of 2009 a group of users from The Commercial Real Estate Professionals and Investors Group got together to start a site that would help tie investors to distressed commercial properties.

We had high hopes, but as most of you know, at that time it was impossible to find any inventory that penciled out for investors and the banks were holding or should I say hoarding most of the marketable inventory.

With advisory board members like the late Frank Maguire Co-Founder of FedEx & KFC and many others (see we worked hard to blaze new trails in an ailing industry.

This proved to be an almost impossible task as the banks would not release inventory or funds.

In 2011 Leonard Manriquez of ALB Commercial Capital took over the site which worked to educate, enable and help connect the thousands of investors, property owners and brokers with a site that allowed first class networking, resource development and education. You can still go to to check out the work that was done there. Leo did a great job, but the industry was still taking a beating and ALB Commercial Capital has decided to make their priority lending in the commercial and multifamily markets.

To this end CREDAA Connect is shutting down. We appreciate our members and hope that you will check out for all your commercial finance needs. You may also join thousands of other CRE networkers at with over 5000 members or at CREPIG at Linkedin with over 19,000 members at or CREPIG at Twitter which has over 36,000 followers.

The Key to Staying Young? Excercise!

A recent study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine found that adults who exercise more tend to be less susceptible to mental and physical health problems including depression, dementia, heart disease, diabetes and cancer.

The English Longitudinal Study of Aging studied 3,500 adults (average age 64 years old) and collected data on their physical activity level every two years between 2002-2003 and 2010-2011. The participants were then categorized by the amount they exercised each week and divided into three categories – no activity, moderate activity and vigorous activity. The researchers also tracked serious health problems (including mental health) suffered by the participants and found a strong correlation between health and exercise as the participants aged.

The results showed a clear correlation between “healthy aging” and exercise level. Adults who practiced moderate or vigorous exercise at least once a week were 3-4x more likely to age healthier than adults who did not exercise. While this association is not a clear cause-and-effect relationship, the fact is that adults who were active in the beginning of the study were 7 times more likely to have fewer health problems than adults who did not exercise for the entirety of the study. Twenty percent of all participants were considered to be healthy agers, and of the 1 in 10 participants that became active over the study, 70% stayed active.

So how much exercise is enough? The World Health Organization recommends adults age 65+ do at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic exercise during the week with each session lasting at least 10 minutes. Adults should also practice muscle-strengthening activities 2-3 times a week.

Easy Food Substitutions to Improve Your Health

While we all have our guilty pleasures when it comes to food, there are a number of easy food substitutions that can help make dieting and eating healthy a little easier.

Most of us enjoy our morning cup of coffee to kick-start our day and rather than making a full substitution (which may be hard for the die-hard coffee fan like me) it is easy to cut calories by ordering coffees made with nonfat milk rather than full milk. Grande nonfat Cappuccinos from Starbucks also only contain 80 calories compared to grande Caffe Latte which have 200.

One of the most common guilty pleasures, ice cream, can be easily substituted for nonfat frozen yogurt which is lower in saturated fat and calories. If you are going for ice cream, try low fat versions of your favorites and use fruit toppings rather than candy or chocolate.

Using nonfat Greek yogurt instead of sour cream or mayo will also save you on calories and fat and is a better source of protein as well. Additionally, if you are making a salad use nuts instead of croutons to cut on salt and increase protein.

There are a number of good substitutions for using oil in your baking as well. ¾ cup to 1 cup of unsweetened applesauce as well as mango, banana or avocado puree mixed with nonfat milk can be used for 1 cup liquid oil. Cutting out oil not only helps to lower cholesterol by avoiding high fats in oils but also can help to lose weight by cutting calories and improving overall health.

Clearing the Confusion about Multi-Vitamins

With entire stores devoted to selling multi-vitamins and supplements, the headlines coming out about multi-vitamins seem to be conflicted. One day, the media can report that they are essential to preventing disease and the next day reports state these vitamins are doing more harm than good.

For example, a large observational study by the Iowa Women’s Health Study followed a group of women for 19 years and found that those women who reported taking a daily multi-vitamin were actually 6% more likely to diet than those who did not report taking a daily multi-vitamin. Researchers have hypothesized that users of multi-vitamins may be healthier because they tend to have a healthier lifestyle and diets, which lower their risk of disease and called for a randomized study to look at the cause and effect relationship of the Iowa study.

The randomized study, called the Physicians’ Health Study II, followed 14,000 men who took either Centrum Silver or a placebo everyday for 11 years and found that the risk of dying was not significant between the two groups. The study also found that taking a multi-vitamin had no effect on the risk of developing heart disease, stroke or cancer. This find has been consistently proved in other studies as well, including the Multiethnic Cohort Study and Women’s Health Iniative cohort.

So when is it worth it to take a multi-vitamin? The answer, in short, is when it will suppliement nutrients that you may not be getting from your regular diet. For example, between 7-16% of women aged 12-49 are iron deficient and may benefit from multis that contain the recommended daily value of 18 miligrams. Additionally, persons age 50+ generally get vitamin B-12 from either fortified foods or supplements, with the recommended daily amount being 2.4 micrograms.

The important takeaway from the multi-vitamin argument is to not rely on them to keep you healthy! While multi-vitamins may be beneficial for those who have a nutrient deficiency, it is important to keep in mind that research shows that these multi-vitamins will not reduce the risk of disease and that they are not a subtsitute for a healthly lifestyle.

Foods that Fight Cancer

The link between nutrition and cancer is an important relationship to understand and one that many people today seem to forget. What many people may not realize is that nearly 35% of all cancers are tied to nutrition in some way. Consequently, there have been a number of studies devoted to the research of cancer-fighting foods and diets and the results tend towards a number of recurring trends.

The big picture of the research available shows that eating more fruits and vegetables, and less meat and highly saturated fat dairy products will improve your odds of avoiding nutrition-related cancers. Additionally, cooking methods that use exposure to high heat and charring (barbeque, grilling) have been linked to higher risk of cancer. Not to worry though, a balanced diet lowers the risk of cancer and there are a number of foods that actively reduce the risk of cancer. The American Institute for Cancer Research recommends filling 2/3 of your plate with fruits, veggies, whole grains and beans.

More specifically, dark leafy greens such as spinach, kale, collard greens and Swiss chard are high in fiber, folates, cartenoids and flavonoids that protect against a number of cancers. Green tea is also high in flavonoids and polyphenols that act as antioxidants that can prevent liver, colon, breast and prostate cancer. Berries (strawberries, blueberries and raspberries) are also high in fiber and Vitamin C and can protect against esophagus and colorectal cancer.

In terms of food to avoid, one of the worst foods is full, fat regular bacon. It is extremely high in saturated fat and is full of nitrites and other cancer-contributing ingredients. Look instead for reduced fat bacon or turkey bacon that is specifically labeled to be nitrate-free. Look for nitrate-free labeling on other processed meats as well, such as lunchmeat, sausage and hot dogs. Also, avoid any foods that contain GMOs but beware, you won’t find GMOs on the nutrition label so be sure to look for foods that are specifically labeled to be non-GMO.

Trans Fats: What’s the Big Deal?

The upcoming FDA ban on trans-fats has garnered a lot of media attention over the last few weeks and with that attention many questions on the effects of trans-fats on health and diet. So what are the dangers of trans-fats and why should they be banned from our foods?

Trans fats, or trans-fatty acids, are “created in an industrial process that adds hydrogen to liquid vegetable oils to make them more solid” (American Heart Asosociation, Eating trans-fats lowers HDL (“good”) cholesterol levels and raises LDL (“bad”) cholesterol levels blocking arteries and increasing the chance of heart attack and stroke. Trans-fats, like all fats,  also carry a whopping 9 calories per gram – nearly twice that of carbohydrates and fats. Diets high in trans-fats have also been linked to an increased chance of developing type-2 diabetes.

Trans-fats can be found in a number of everyday foods including shortening, tub butter, stick margarine, Crisco, Bisquick, fast-food French fries and hamburgers as well as certain ice creams and fried Ramen and Asian noodles. Deep-fat fried and highly processed foods are among the highest in trans-fats There are small amounts of trans-fats that occur naturally in meat and and dairy products, however the effect of these trans-fats on cholesterol is unclear compared to the effects of those produced by the food industry.

Companies use trans-fats because they are generally less expensive to produce and last longer and give a certain texture and taste to food that consumers have become used to for decades. However, there are many good alternatives to hydrogenated oils including saturated vegetable oils as well as corn, sunflower and safflower oils.

The FDA ban on tran-fats is a step in the right direction towards curbing obesity and improving the health of all Americans. Hopefully the FDA will continue to pursue restrictions on other harmful ingredients – including GMOs and high fructose corn syrup!

Nutrition Tips for Marathon Running

Have a marathon coming up? Here are same training and race-day tips to help keep you in top marathon shape. At NutriFit, we share these tips with those athletes who are using our Sports Specific Meals.

As the saying goes, “not planning is planning to fail” and this holds especially true for marathon runners. To keep energy levels up and avoid crashing, ensure that you have a hydration and nutrition plan for race-day. Eat a small meal or two four hours before the race – make sure that you do not try any new foods to avoid any unexpected reactions. On runs longer than one hour, make it a habit to bring and eat small snacks that are high on the glycemic index. It is important, especially on longer runs, to not wait until you are hungry to eat – know your body and your needs to know when to refuel before waiting for a rumbling stomach as a cue to eat. The body stores a maximum of 2000 kilocalories of glycogen, which it quickly burns after 90 minutes or so.  Research shows that the typical 145 lb male burns 100 calories/mile with 80 of those calories coming from carbohydrates and 20 from fat.

Another way to keep energy up is with caffeine – but only use this if you regularly consume it and have a plan in place to balance caffeine intake with water and carbohydrate intake. Energy gels and sports drinks also contain carbohydrates and, when used properly, are a good supplement to your GI snacks. Incorporate these energy gels in your race-day plan, and consider using them as a chaser after re-hydrating with water. NutriFit also makes a wonderful Mighty Muscle Mix, which is a great recovery snack.

It is also important to take race-day conditions into consideration – high humidity and heat will affect your energy and run. Be sure to drink plenty of water and stop at aid stations along the marathon path. Pay attention to the color of your urine and bladder to identify possible problems and know the affects medications you may be taking might have on your body during the race.

What Happens When You Die?

On Purpose Magazine Question Series

What Happens When You Die?

Cemetery fog by Tim Heffernan, on Flickr

So many schools of thought on this one. It seems that it is just not an academic type of question where the true answer can be found.

Do we just turn into dust and are no longer? Do we come back as someone or something else? Do we stay aware? Do we go someplace where we can see and help guide others back on Earth? Do we get rewarded or punished for our lives here on Earth? Do we go back to source like a drop of water back into the ocean that is the infinite? What do you think? What is your experience.

Please also share this with friends so we can get their response as well. I would love to get a diversity of beliefs discussed here.

This question is not one of science for the most part. It is strictly a debate in faith and belief.

I do not want this to turn into a mudslinging debate, but as I was diagnosed earlier this year with stage 4 cancer the question has come up. Although I do not practice a particular religion, it is hard for me to believe that my being aware is all there is and that all of us being aware only for a fleeting moment is the point of life, if there is a point to life at all.

There seems to be as many opinions as there are people out there. I did some research on near death experiences. I had one years ago and did not see a light at the end of any tunnel. I actually saw nothing. As it turns out although the Internet reports on many stories of similar NDE experiences, there are studies that show only 12% of NDE experiences caused visions and all those visions were not necessarily the same? 60% had feelings of peace and contentment and only 5% of those experienced entering the light so this means that only a very few of NDE experiences are similar… So what gives? 1 2 3

I want to know what you think. What you believe; what you hope and what you believe you know.
