The latest in modern skyscrapers is not going up in New York City or Chicago. It is not going up in the Far East either. The DaVinci Tower, which boasts a whole new architectural concept called Dynamic Architecture, is going up in Dubai. David Fisher is the architect.

Dynamic Architecture opens up a whole new approach to constructing Intelligent Buildings in urban areas. The applications of new architecture, technology, and pre-fabricated construction techniques can be easily seen in this next-generation commercial building.

Talk about an innovative approach to provide the latest in green technology as well as luxury amenities, each floor of this tower will be able to rotate 360 degrees every 90 minutes. That means you will be able to see a panoramic view of the city as your floor turns. In addition, each floor is separated by a wind turbine which will be able to provide power to the building as well as the city.

Each floor is being built off-site and the construction of the building on-site should take a lot less time than a traditional building. It is estimated each floor and its modular pieces of the building will take six days to add on compared to a traditional building’s build out per floor of six weeks. A huge significant change is evident in the construction techniques implemented for this building.

2000 workers
30 months to build
1 floor per six weeks

90 workers
18 months to build
1 floor per six days

DYNAMIC_2Add to these huge differences in construction approaches, the idea of adding wind turbines inbetween each floor. So there is no “extra footprint” for a wind turbine, it is all consolidated in the footprint of the building. This new concept is being adopted for several buildings globally.

They did not address fiber optics or broadband connectivity in this building approach, but I am sure they have incorporated some new approaches for these intelligent amenities as well for each base unit.

When you take a look at all the new concepts being implemented in this building, you realize how almost all buildings up to this point have not utilized some of these unique approaches. It is clear some architectural approaches which were standard rules-of-thumb yesterday are totally obsolete today. Does your building have movable floors? Does it have a wind turbine beneath each floor to generate power?

CARLINI-ISM: Adding this new dimension to architecture changes what was considered “Best Practices” and standard rules-of-thumb. Move forward and adopt these new ideas.
